How to Add Music to an Instagram Post

However, you will have a lot of competition. There are also over 2 million businesses making Instagram advertisements and posts.

Add Music to Your Instagram Story 

The Instagram app has a built-in feature that allows users to add music to their Instagram story posts. As you will see, users can access this feature on the customization page. 

There are plenty of benefits to using the story section in your social media marketing plan. Thus, the method below is important to learn. 

Step 1: Select an Image or Video 

The first step is to add a photo or video to your Instagram story (for more information on how to do this, you can click here: how to post a video on Instagram)

To do this, go to your Instagram home page. Tap the icon at the top that looks like a plus sign in a box. Tap the 'Story' bar in the drop-down menu that appears. 

Doing so will cause your gallery to appear. Click on the image or video you want to add to your Instagram story. The content will now appear on your customization page. 

Step 2: Click the Music Sticker

On the customization page, click the square icon with a smiley face at the top. This will open a menu of 'stickers.' These are features you can add to your post. 

The music one will be the third down on the left. Click on it. 

Step 3: Choose Your Music

Instagram will have a wide variety of songs for you to choose from. Many of these will be highly popular tunes.

You can scroll to search for songs or use the search bar to find the song you want. The play button will allow you to listen to each song you see. 

Once you've found a song that you like, click on it. 

Step 4: Customize the Music

The Instagram app will then bring you to a page that allows you to customize how the music appears on your story. This includes choosing which 15-sec part of the song you want, adding or removing lyrics, and many more features.

Step 5: Post to Your Story 

Once you're satisfied with how you've customized the music, tap the 'Done' button at the top right of your screen. 

This will take you back to the main add to the story page. You can then hit the 'your Story' button on the bottom left. This will add the post to your story. 

Add Music to Your Instagram Reel 

Reel is a relatively new feature on Instagram. It's like TikTok in that the primary form of content here is short videos. Video editing is also a feature that Reel shares with TikTok. 

There are a few different ways to add music to your Reel page. The steps below will cover two of them. 

Step 1: Go to Reel

To go to the Reel video editor page, click on the plus icon at the top. As before, this will give you a drop-down menu of different Instagram features. Click on the bar that says 'Reel'. 

Doing so will bring you to the main Reel page.

Step 2: First Way To Add Music 

You can add music to the video before you record it here. If you do so, the music will play while you film. This can make it easier to lip-sync, dance, and other features. 

Click the music notes icon at the top right. This will bring you to the music selection page. This is exactly the same as it is with stories. 

Find the music that you want. Click on it. You will be brought to an editing page that will allow you to choose a 15-sec clip of music for your video. 

Edit this Instagram post to your satisfaction. When you're done, tap the 'Done' button. 

Step 3: Record the Video

Tap the multicolor clapboard icon near the middle of your screen. This will record your 15-second video. 

If you selected music beforehand, the music will play while you record. You can then lip sync, dance, and/or perform other actions to the music. 

If you didn't select the music beforehand, nothing will play. You can shoot the video in silence.

Step 4: Second Method to Add Music 

Once you've recorded your video, the app will bring you to another page. On this, you can watch a loop of your video footage. 

There are icons on the top. If you want to add music now, tap the music note icon. A drop-down menu will appear under your footage.

There will be a rectangular box to the right with music notes inside. Click this box. The music selection page will appear.

Select your music and edit it as you wish. Once you hit the 'Done' button, you'll go back to the page with the drop-down menu. 

Slide the drop-down menu down to go back to the video editing page. Tap the 'Next' button. 

Step 5: Share Your Post 

The page you will see now should be mostly white. There are also more text buttons here that will allow you to tag people, add your location, and so on (for more information on this click here: caption for Instagram post). Use these if you wish 

Once you've finished, hit the blue 'Share' icon at the bottom (for more information on this, you can click here: how to share a post on Instagram). Your post will appear on your Reel page 

Use Apps to Amplify Your Instagram Posts 

Once you've figured out the basics, experiment a bit. With a bit of creativity, you will find the perfect forms of content for your social media marketing plan.
